Kidney diseases is on the rise among Ghana's youth, according to medical officers.
According to them, the number of young people who contract the disease is on the rise.

During the opening of an ultra-modern kidney center at the institution, Dr. Charlotte Osafo, a leading doctor at the facility, cautioned the public to take precautions.

"In Ghana, hypertension is the most common cause of renal disease." Many people suffer from hypertension and are unable to control it.

"If you've been diagnosed, it's vital that you minimize your salt intake, lose weight, exercise consistently, and eat a healthy diet."

"All of them are important not only for hypertensive people but also for diabetics because diabetes is one of the primary causes of kidney failure."

"Infections are another aspect to consider. You must take the drugs if you go to the hospital and they tell you you have a kidney infection and give you drugs "She was adamant.

The President's health advisor, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, revealed the government's plans to develop an insurance policy to cover dialysis patients on the same occasion.

He went on to clarify that the insurance plan will also assist persons suffering from kidney disease in managing their finances.

"The cost of treating one patient on kidney dialysis for a year is about GH50,700, and I'm sure most families can't pay that much for just one patient; it's massive, and most people can't afford it."

As a result, he stated, "we'd like to develop a renal fund or insurance system that will cover renal disorders."

He also claimed that the government aims to adopt regulations governing kidney donation to people in need of a transplant.

"But first, we need to create legislation to promote kidney transplantation so that people aren't merely kidnapped and their kidneys removed for sale," he stated.
